Safety Considerations When Buying a New Crib I know you've been thinking about how well your baby will sleep at night. I'm pretty sure you only want to buy a crib once and have it last for years to come. I recommend shopping around online and reading some user reviews to find out how satisfied others who have bought the crib are. Certain cribs are designed specifically to grow with your child, taking care of all their sleeping needs from baby to toddler and beyond. A quality built crib can be handed down to your future children or other family.
Convertible Crib Conveniences
Having a multiple level mattress adjustment is standard on many convertible cribs. This makes it super easy to adjust the mattress down as your baby gets grows into a feisty toddler and wants to try to crawl out of the crib.
Safety Should be Your #1 Priority
Choose a crib with high standards for manufacture and assembly that meet or exceed all U.S. safety guidelines. I do not recommend a crib with any moving parts, such as those with a sliding rail system. It sounds convenient, but is a huge sacrifice as far as safety is concerned. Not only does having a crib with no moving parts make for a safer environment for your child, it also adds to the longevity of the crib.
Of course, a crib that is made in an eco-friendly manner is always a plus. Look for a crib with a non-toxic finish that is free from formaldehyde and other toxins and having wood grown from sustainable forests. Its just the right thing to do.
Do not buy a "cheap" crib... let me repeat that, do NOT buy a cheap crib with questionable standards in manufacture process or you will likely regret it a few months after bringing it home (if not the moment you try to assemble it). Consider your crib purchase as an investment in your child's future well being and the decision to spend a little more becomes less of a concern. Spending a little bit more now will certainly save you a lot of money in the long run.
